Une école malgache issue de l’éco-conception qui résiste aux intempéries
Entièrement construite avec des éco-matériaux, l’école résiste aux catastrophes naturelles

L’UNICEF s’active à Madagascar, y construisant des écoles « vertes » capables de résister aux ouragans.

Les enfants malgaches en âge d’aller à l’école pourront enfin s’instruire à l’abri du vent et du soleil. L’UNICEF a en effet initié la construction d’une école issue de l’éco-conception dans le village de Marolondo, à 450 kilomètres au sud d’Antananarivo, la capitale du pays. Conçus pour éviter les chaleurs accablantes, les toits dudit établissement feront sûrement plus d’effet sur les jeunes élèves que les tentes de fortunes qui servaient de lieux d’enseignement autrefois, en plus d’être autrement plus sécurisantes.

Il a en fait été érigé à la place d’une autre école régulièrement en proie à des catastrophes naturelles et qui a finalement été réaménagée en terrain de jeu. Les parents ont manifestement bien accueilli l’initiative, les inscriptions pour la rentrée prochaine s’étant multipliées.

L’éco-conception et le développement durable font leur trou au niveau local

Le projet, qui a vocation à réduire l’impact environnemental des constructions tout en facilitant la concrétisation des objectifs du programme Éducation pour tous, lequel vise à développer la protection et l’éducation de la petite enfance, notamment dans les pays défavorisés, ainsi qu’à accroître le taux d’alphabétisation des adultes et d’une façon générale à améliorer la qualité de l’éducation. La nouvelle structure n’a en outre pas été construite avec la traditionnelle terre cuite, mais en briques de pisé.

Celles-ci incitent les constructeurs à se passer de ciment – et pour cause, de petites quantités d’eau suffisent à leur consolidation – et à s’adapter aux différents terrains. « Imaginez les conséquences pour l’environnement si les briques utilisées étaient des briques ordinaires. Pour bâtir deux salles de classe, il faut 14 000 briques en terre cuite. Cela exige de brûler un hectare de forêt et de relâcher 200 tonnes de CO2 dans l’atmosphère », a détaillé Jacques Ramaroson, coordinateur de l’UNICEF cité par nos confrères du site Internet Greenetvert.fr.

Quelque 57 écoles analogues devraient être construites dans tout le pays afin d’arriver aux 3 000 salles de cours dont aura besoin Madagascar d’ici 2015, sachant qu’il n’est pas rare que les établissements scolaires soient endommagés voire détruits par ouragans. « Celui qui ouvre une porte d’école ferme une prison », disait Victor Hugo, et nous ne pouvons à ce titre qu’applaudir l’initiative du fonds onusien.
